Milk and cheese have no fiber. Thus, dairy products can be constipating for children. A plant-based diet is high in fiber and prevents constipation and other intestinal disorders.
Saturated Fats, Cholesterol, and Hormones.
Even skim milk marketed as low fat may be higher in milk sugar. All milk contains cholesterol. Don’t be fooled by stories of organic milk. It contains cholesterol too.
If tested three-quarter of the people anywhere in the world would be lactose intolerant to some degree. As one researcher put it: “Milk is meant for cows, not people.” Some research has shown that Northern Europeans have the highest genetic tolerance for milk, whereas Mediterranean peoples have lower tolerance, and mainland China populations have almost no tolerance at all.
Dairy products have been shown to acerbate irritable bowel syndrome and other intestinal problems.Drinking milk also slows digestion and metabolism.
Most dairy products are pasteurized to kill potentially-harmful bacteria. Pasteurization destroys vitamins, proteins, and enzymes. These enzymes assist with digestion process. Pasteurization makes milk harder to digest. This puts a strain on our enzyme system. However, drinking unpasteurized milk comes with a serious danger of e-coli.
What are the Solutions
There are better calcium alternatives than milk and other dairy products. Many adults have transitioned to plant-based milks such as almond, soy, coconut, hemp, oat or rice. There are also food alternatives such as vegan cheeses and ice creams, or products made from the alternative milks listed above. Whatever you choose, it’s likely to be better for you than the milk you get from the corner grocery.
